That's because we don't get to do it very often. The average camper may get to spend 15 or 20 days per year sleeping out in the great outdoors. Judging by the many accessories in today's RV's, roughing it may not mean the same as it did years ago.

As a couple who have had a great many nights under the stars we have compiled a short list of five items we would not leave home without. Your list may differ from ours but that's human nature.

Our five most important camping items.

A large tarpaulin with plenty of rope. We camped on the west coast of British Columbia, as well as many years on Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia. In these two areas it rains plenty. On the east coast we simply put up with the rain. On those days we put up with it or went home. The ground would get wet. Everyone was bored while trapped inside the tent. Not until we camped in British Columbia did we learn what to do. Our first spring weekend trip took us to a beautiful BC Provincial park. The couple next door to our site had a huge tarpaulin set up and lashed to the trees. Two extension poles raised the center up high. It covered the entire site. It rained that night. Next morning they had a campfire going and ate breakfast under the tarp. Their site was perfectly dry. Definite high on our list of camping essentials.

An axe, a hatchet and a small bucksaw. Very important tools. You purchase a bundle of firewood. It's either too large to burn, or too small and burns quickly. You may need to find a dead tree, a piece of driftwood or a large chunk someone else had and couldn't cut up. The axe will split large pieces. The hatchet cuts the larger pieces down to size. The saw can be used to salvage long pieces. My saw was a Sandvik saw with a 12 inch blade. It had very sharp large teeth that cut through small logs easily. It never dulled.

Fire sticks and fire paste. Both are very effective but one or the other will do. Excellent camping essentials. If you want to be able to start a campfire every single time, these products will do the job. We have never had a failure. They are very inexpensive. A package of 12 sticks will last the entire summer. Prepare the fire with tiers of kindling and a few pieces of larger wood. Cut a one inch piece of fire stick. Slip it under the kindling and light it. It will burn until the fire is blazing.

Propane camp stove with an eight pound tank. Two or three burner. Both are excellent. We wore out two, white gas stoves over the years. The kind you pump up to use. The fuel is simply called Camp-stove fuel. They were a bother. They could be dangerous. The propane stove is much superior product. We suggest the eight pound tank as it is very cheap to fill at the local service station, will last hundreds of hours, and is easy on the landfill. Carry a one pound canister just in case you run out with the eight pound tank.

Last but not least. Check your equipment. One year we opened up our large tent during our first trip of the year only to discover the entire upper corner had been torn up and used as nesting material by squirrels during the winter. That trip was ruined. Check your stove, gas container, lamps, flashlights, tents and RV's. Leave nothing unchecked and you will enjoy a great camping season with your camping essentials.

Joe and Irma have built a wonderful fact filled site http://www.whistler-outdoors.com with well over 100 pages of information a visitor really must know prior to visiting.
Canvas Frames

3 Steps to Begin Making Money on eBay Fast - When You Don't Know Where to Start

Do not sit in front of your computer any more, wasting time and daydreaming. Begin today to take the necessary steps needed to make money on eBay.

I have discovered how awesome eBay really is!

It was not too long ago that I had no clue what eBay was about, and now look at me, an eBay enlightened Mom!

Would you like to get there too? It is not difficult and it is really a lot of fun.

eBay is the latest, and greatest money-making endeavor I have found. And believe me, I have searched high and low in all kinds of markets and businesses to find something that could work for me.

Nothing I found seemed to tickle my fancy until eBay. There were always too many loopholes to stop me from pursuing any of the ideas I came across. Such problems I found were, for example: the costs which seemed to escalate, the amount of time that was required was more than I could give, the steps were way too complicated and the end result always seemed way too small.

No, not me boy, I wanted to invest only a small amount of money, I wanted to spend about 15 hours on this per week, and I needed it to be pretty simple, something that if I stopped at any moment, (you know the kids always distract me at the wrong times) I needed to be able to pick up where I left off and not end up completely confused. Does this sound like the same issues you have had?

Let eBay be your solution to the fastest and most simple way of making money! Let me share the ropes with you so you can begin right away.

Step 1 - Log on to eBay and start exploring!

Sounds too easy right? Well it is, as I promised. Just look up searches for things you are interested in and see for yourself how items are listed.

Make note as to how some auctions draw your eye to them, and others don't. Look at the titles of the items, which ones would you be more drawn to and why. Under the "search" box, use different words to describe what it is you want to find and see what comes up.

Notice how many different categories there are and observe the specialty sites. Interesting now isn't it!

If you are feeling a bit more comfortable the next thing you should do is buy something from eBay.

Step 2 - Buy something from eBay.

The reason you need to buy something is because to be a good seller you must understand what it is like to be a buyer. You do not have to spend a lot of money here, in fact you should not spend a lot, just get your feet a bit wet and try it out.

To find out the steps in buying from eBay check out my other articles. You will see that it is not difficult to set up a buyer's account on eBay, AND you get to choose an eBay user ID, a code word if you like that eBay users will know you by. Sounds exciting now doesn't it! Who knew that part of the process to making money on eBay was shopping! Well I would say that is just too much fun.

Okay, now you have browsed around eBay, you have familiarized yourself with auctions, and you have purchased something! That is great and you are now ready to make some money.

Step 3 - Sell something from your attic.

Don't panic if you do not have an attic. Do you have a cupboard, a closet, a drawer, a child! No, just kidding, there is no need to sell your firstborn, at least not yet! But you do need to find something to sell, and it would be best if it was not your mother's $5,000.00 wedding ring please!

You do not want to start with an expensive item, remember this is a first sale for you so make it easy for yourself. Also, keep in mind shipping costs and packaging needs, so size and weight is a factor here.

Once you have found your first item, or items, take some really good pictures of them and upload the photos on your computer. You are now ready to set up a seller's account on eBay. My other articles can guide you through this process.

If you have followed these steps, you can sit back now and watch the price of your item go up and up, until at last someone buys it!

You have taken the plunge. In essence you have begun your exciting career on eBay. May this be the beginning of a very profitable journey for you.

Pauline Kiselbach is a single mom of two who started with nothing and built a wildly profitable eBay business. She has put together a free multi-part mini-course to teach you how to generate quick and easy profits on eBay.

Baby Car Seat Rental

The Anatomy of Golf

Have you ever been invited to play a round of golf, and realized when you got there, you have no idea what you are suppose to do? Well, this will help you know your surroundings when you get to the course so you aren't in the dark about you situation.

The game is played on what is a course, of which I previously said. It consists of 9 or 18 holes. Each hole is the target of your ball and you want to get your ball there in the fewest shots as possible. Each time you hit the golf ball this is called a "Stroke."

Teeing Ground

When you get on the course with your clubs, you start on the first hole at a place called the Tee. Officially it is called the "Teeing Ground," Mr Coffee Instructions you are trying to fit in and everyone just uses the shortended version of it. This is the beginning of each hole. It is where you hit the golf ball off a short wooden or plastic peg for a better first shot.

Fairway

The fairway is generally where a player would want to hit on to from their tee shot. If the ball goes off the point of where you wanted it, it could land in a place called the "Rough," which is basically grass that is much higher than that of the fairway. It is much harder to hit out of which is why you would aim for the fairway.

Hazard

Other than the Rough, there are much worse things on a golf course that can cause trouble to the score you are aiming at. These golf course hazards include water hazards like lakes, and rivers. If you hot your ball in to one of those, you will get charged a one stroke penalty. A different hazard is called a bunker or a sand trap. A bunker or a sand trap is exactly what it sounds like. It is a big whole of sand that traps the ball and makes it harder to hit out of. You would generally want to just hit the ball and try not to hit the sand at all. Other hazards include trees, denser vegetation, and bushes.

Putting Green

After getting through the most part of the hole, you come to the nearest part near the actual hole called the "Putting Green." The Putting Green will have the shortest grass on the course and consist of an area where you line up your ball with the hole. But that isn't as easy as it sounds. Each Putting Green is unique with small hills and slopes that can change the direction your ball goes. This is why you must study the hole a bit before attempting to put the all in. Your club, called a putter, will be different from the other clubs. It is a flat faced club which makes the ball roll along the ground towards the hole until the ball comes to rest in the cup.

Scoring

When you play a hole, you want to have your strokes under a certain level depending on the length of the hole. Having an even amount of stoke with out going over is called "Par".

This article was written for our friends at Golfsport to help people better understand the sport of golf. Most of the business ventures which fail involved a product with little or no demand, or the supply was so great that customers were never pressured to buy. They could buy whenever they felt like it.

Most business owners overlook the importance of supply and demand when they set up a marketing campaign. They are more interested in SEO, and banner exchanges. They explore Pay Per Click programs, and traffic generating opportunities. All of their time is spent learning how to gain exposure. Very little is spent on learning about their customers, and measuring the supply and demand of their product.

A Good Product Addresses The Demand

One of the most important aspects of marketing is a good product. It is amazing how many ecommerce businesses start without a product to sell. The business owner believes that their drop ship store is their product. Or, they believe that their ebook is the product.

This is not a product. Your product is not something tangible which people will pay for. In fact, most products can be found in a dozen places, so there is no reason for anyone to feel pressured to buy before leaving the website.

The product is what the customer will leave the website with. A book on property management, a training course on stock investing, a starter kit for a work at home business, Reviews On Ipod Nano are not products.

All products fall into three categories:

1. They solve a problem.
2. They make life easier.
3. They help people improve.

If a website sells a starter kit for work at home businesses, then it should address these three aspects of the product. What problems will this product solve? How will this product make the business owners life easier? How will the business owner get an edge over the competition with this product? The answers to these questions are the real product.

That is why one website can make thousands of dollars a month, selling ebooks on investing, while others fail. Take the website www.fool.com as an example. This website has mastered the art of selling their problem solving products. Yes, you can arrange a mortgage through one of their brokersbut the reason why you sign with their broker, is because they promise to help you save money, or #2 on our list.

Supply

Another important aspect is to address the supply. There are thousands of websites selling Ipods for less than retail. There are hundreds of thousands of sites that help people start a business. The supply is big. However, is there a demand?

The demand can be drastically reduced by addressing singular problems involved with starting up a business. For example, many websites tell small business owners to visit their local municipal offices and learn what is involved with importing or exporting. However, a website that doesnt tell people this, instead, it offers a quick importing/exporting tutorial will have a problem solving product.

The Ipod store, which includes every single Ipod accessory, including places where it is legal to download songs will do better than an ecommerce store that lists thousands of electronics.

Supply & Demand

Put them together. Demand is convincing people that there is some reason they need to buy the product now. It doesnt matter if there are 40 000 other websites selling the same product. Focus on 1 3 problems that your product will solve and broadcast it across the net.

Supply does not necessarily mean the number of product for sale. Instead, it means the number of product that your customers have available to them. There may be 1000 ebooks on property investing each one good. However, yours may be the only one entitled How to Build a Property Portfolio Without Loosing Your Family Home.

Now, the supply has narrowed to 1 You.

Mark Walters is a third generation entrepreneur and author. If they made more money than their Father, they reasoned, what kind of son or daughter would they be?

Sounds crazy but this is not what we want but what this is what our sub-conscious mind is reminding us.

Others fear that making big money would 'change' them somehow and they would not be the same person anymore- the same person that people know, love and care for.

True story:

I have a friend whose friends are no longer close to her anymore because she has grown to be more successful than them. She has become a 'bigger' person now.

They start to pick on her like...

"She thinks she's the only person busy with her work."

The truth is... she is BUSY with her work and building a strong financial support but her friends don't have that kind of being busy privilege.

And they'll look for her weaknesses to find chances to pick on her.

Are her friends bad? Not really. They're just reacting towards 'change'. Instead of responding, they're reacting.

They'll feel...

"She's not the same person anymore."

Yes, she chanced to be better and wiser.

So if she changes to be more successful, she'll fear that her friends might not like her they way they used to.

That's just one example.

The fear of making big money is REAL. It's in your mind and the only thing that is moving you is YOUR MIND.

However, you may not believe you are influenced by this fear because it sounds really silly.

But think about it for a minute.

Maybe what you really fear is 'change'... and if you made big money it would change you and your life.

That is why most lottery 'millionaires' end up spending or losing most of their winnings a year or so after they've won... they seek 'normal' lives again where nothing ever changes.

It's not hard to make big money... the hard part is giving yourself permission to make it and keep it.

Yes, I said give yourself PERMISSION to start making big money.

The game of becoming rich is an internal one... just like golf, or becoming an Olympic athlete. The problem is inside us... lack of confidence and self-esteem are the enemies.

Don't let fear of making money stop you. Start believing in yourself, check your self-esteem and make a wise informed and profitable choice for your future.

One of the way to solve this is by using... an anchor.

With an anchor, you have the power to do a simple act and you'll instantly be able to eliminate that fear of making money. Sounds interesting, isn't it?

No, this is not trying to use affirmation. It's scientifically proven to work. The 'technology' for using anchoring is introduced in Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP).

This is probably the fastest way to change your emotions instantly.

I'll show you how to experience 'success'.

Think of a time when you have a very successful experience. It can be when you get number #1 in any competition.

It can be an experience when you beat Your competitors to be a winner.

It could even be when your wife agreed to marry you!

Now focus on the feeling of success you have experienced last time. Pull out the memory of how it felt like ... to be successful, to be on top of your game.

Engage that feeling. Are you feeling it?

I know it's hard while reading this article but you'll need to practice it if you want to know how it works.

See yourself when you have achieve success, hear the claps and cheers, remember the smell of room where you're winning the prizes and feel it.

Then it's time for you to create an anchor at that exact moment of time.

Many types of actions can be an anchor for you.

You can twist your ear, move your fingers 5 times, clinch your fist 3 times, rub your hands together, make an arm swing or just do anything you can think of that can have a special meaning for you.

This anchor will be engrossed with the state you in. And the state that you're in at that moment of time is when you're experiencing your successes.

The more passionate or lively the experience, the better anchor you will create.

Copyright 2006 Patric Chan

Patric Chan is an author, international speaker and founder of the "You Chan Do It! There are the few individuals however, that make it difficult. You can either go to a store with a golf pro or go to a garage sale for used clubs. You can even check with the pro at a local municipal course, but your chances of choosing a set of golf clubs with the most suitable size of grip, loft lie and the other accessories involved in golf club fitting are very slim.

If youre a golf novice, then its good to keep in mind that you may find that this game is not your cup of tea. You ought to start out with rental clubs at the local driving range. Most driving ranges have rental clubs. Therefore you should go out and hit golf balls with the rental clubs. Once you make the decision that you still enjoy the game of golf after hitting a few golf balls, then youre ready to purchase your own golf clubs.

As a novice, you should find inexpensive clubs to use as an interim set during the adjustment period. Youre learning the game of golf, so you dont want to make any big decisions on the type of golf clubs to purchase yet. If you stay attuned to whats going on around the golf course or driving range, you may hear of an individual who has a set that he or even she is willing to sell. You may even ask if the individual has any information on golf clubs that could be sold cheaply. You can try classified ads of the weekend newspaper or take a look at garage sales that may have golf clubs for sale. Of course, you can even check the Internet, which is by far the fastest-growing market in golf. You may even desire to become your very own private investigator as you hunt down the best purchase you can discover. If you purchase inexpensive golf clubs now, then youll allow plenty of time for the big purchase.

Its advisable to try out all of golf clubs. Golf clubs consist of ones with steel shafts, graphite shafts, big-headed clubs, investment-cast golf clubs, forge golf clubs, cavity-backed golf clubs and others. This is your experimental stage, so its best to try different ones and have fun. You can even ask your friends if you can try out their golf clubs on the range.

Jena Luthowski writes about http://www.golfgearonsale.com, Golfballs coupons and Golfsmith coupon codes.

The Metrosexual: Does It Pay to Be One?

So I can help you become irresistible to women, I cover three topics of becoming attractive:

* The importance of a great wardrobe and great hair
* How to find great clothes and great hair
* Dressing to fit you

Now, what does it mean to be a metrosexual? Well, there are about a million definitions out there, but I like this one: An urban male with a heterosexual orientation who rejects many macho attributes often linked to masculinity. He adopts many traits often associated with heterosexual females and gay males -- eg expensive hair care, stylish clothes.

Okay, so it soundswell, not heterosexual, but the fact is, great hair and a stylish wardrobe have quickly become the norm for straight men. In fact, its almost as if being metrosexual IS being alpha-male now. Keep in mind that you dont have to act like someone youre not; its just about presenting yourself better. Lets take a brief look at some of the benefits of dressing well:

* Looking better to women. Hey, this ones obvious, but it needs to be emphasized. Girls love to dress well themselves, so when they see a guy who shows he took time to dress himself well too, theyll have automatic respect for him. It will make the approach so much easier. Note: girls also look closely at shoesfemale expert Maria Forleo has said that shes talked to a guy just because she admired his shoes!

* Looking and feeling better about yourself. Dressing well will automatically make you feel better about yourself, and about your chances when going out. Improved self esteem will translate into a more enjoyable time on the prowl. Even if nothing happens when you go out, you can at least say that it wasnt because of what you wore. Who wants to have the regret of dressing like a slob? You dont want your attire to be your downfall. You want it to be your elevation.

* Gaining respect from other people. People, especially girls, will compliment you on a snazzy outfit or a sweet hairdo, and believe me, it feels great to get that kind of acclaim. Youll feel a lot better going out wearing great clothes and cool hair than going out with messy, just-got-out-of-bed hair and a two-bit pair of jeans and shirt with holes in it. Youre just not commanding respect. And respect is a good thing.

Now lets look at where to get the clothes that will make you look great!

I could take up five lessons just reviewing all the clothing stores out there--and I wouldnt even be able to include all the boutiques and shops unique to your area. So lets look at what works, and what doesnt. As fashion is a fickle thing, I recommend you find a frienda female friend especiallywho is reasonably up to date with the latest trends in clothes and hair styles. Make sure this person knows what he or she is talking aboutif hes saying to go for a 90s flat-top, you might want to move on!

* Asking girls for advice is a GREAT way to approach them. So if you want to have fun and learn a thing or two, you can go up to girls and ask them what you think about the clothes someone ELSE is wearing. Youll see that if it doesnt work for him, it wont work for you If she comments on your clothing, dont take any criticism too harshly. Just the fact that youre asking will probably lead to positive comments. Asking girls for their opinions is a great way to show that YOU make good looks a priority in your life.

* If you have a female friend, you can win BIG points with her by asking her to help you shop for new clothes and a good hairstyle. Not only will she be THRILLED to help you, but youll also score big points with hershell be sure to recommend you to her hot friends, and say what a great style you have. Now THATS a true friend!

* If youre still not sure how to dress, the easiest way to learn is by simple observation. Go to a bar and see whos wearing what. See what the guys who are popular with girls are wearing, and see what the guys who are striking out are wearing. Youll start to see consistencies after a few rounds observing the nightlife crowds. Seeing what guys at parties and other social conventions are wearing is another great idea for finding the look that works.

So you know WHY its good to dress and style well. And you know how to find out whats in style. But its not gonna work if youre wearing something you feel uncomfortable in. Lets look at how to customize itfor you.

* Decide what type of clothes you do like to wear. Do you enjoy jeans? Then go for the jeans that are currently in fashion.

Wearing what makes you feel comfortable is important, because as I say in "The Art of Impressing Women," women want a man who's COMFORTABLE WITH HIMSELF. If you're acting like someone you're not, you're not impressing women--you're repelling them. So be yourself, and conform to your identity. Women love a guy who's confident in his looks and his dress.

* If youre more into cargo pants or corduroy, thats finefind a style, perhaps an urban one, that conforms to lots of loose-fitting, comfortable clothes.

* There are lots of styles out therecasual, skater, sophisticated, metro stylish, etc. Find one that conforms to your personality, to who you are. If youre a snowboarder/skater type of guy, you probably want to dress loosely. But if youre a hard-nosed banker type, a sophisticated, formal attire may work best.

* What kind of hair do you have? If its long and thick, then you definitely want to invest in some strong hair care products and style it so it stands out. If its thin, sometimes the simple styles are all you need.

If youre balding or just have short hair, never despair! Now is the best time to have a crew cut or no hair at all. Bald is in stylelook at Vin Diesel, Billy Zane, even Neil Strauss, the kingpin of the seduction community. Dont be embarrassed to show off your head.

* The most important thing with all of this is to HAVE FUN. Fashions meant to be about showcasing the best qualities of a person. Wearing clothes that you love, can describe in passion to girls, and just enjoy, will make shopping for your new wardrobe exciting, instead of a drag. You may even get to the point where you enjoy shopping with your girl. If you can invite her to go shopping with you, shell not only be flattered, but feel shes GOTTA stay with you. And thats a winners game!

James Brito, bestselling author of "How to Be Irresistible to Women" and "The Art of Impressing Women," regularly explores topics of female attraction. Since 2000, he has helped thousands of men around the world build confidence and get the women they deserve. As a South African, myself, I have been trying to establish myself in internet marketing, for the last three years, but have come across a number of obstacles, which have proved seriously detrimental to my efforts. If you are South African, you can probably relate to this. If you have been battling what seem insurmountable odds, or if you are new to this concept, the message is the same. Stop wasting your time and your money on what is bound to be nothing less than - wasting your time and your money and I will explain why I said that. If you are an internet marketer, who is not South African, you should also read this article, because you are, unwittingly, leaving a lot of money on the table.

As we all know, South Africa is a part of Africa and is unfairly considered as a third world country, with the incorrect perception that this second largest continent, is nothing more than a waste of time, in the field of internet marketing. Well, I beg to differ. I will attempt to outline some of the misconceptions, obstacles, causes and remedies that I have encountered.

Yes, it is true that Africa has not progressed as much as the so called first world countries, but it is taking giant strides towards that. The advent of the internet, is only just beginning to catch on and the vast majority of the population, still have no access at all, but it is coming and it is coming fast. The internet is now available in all countries around the world and Africa is no different. We all know about the Nigerian internet scams. It is just that the vast majority of the population are poverty stricken and cannot afford the service, many are illiterate and the majority of the continent consists of large open spaces and small villages, making the physical provision of any basic services such as electricity, clean water, telephones and other communication devices extremely difficult. It is also an ongoing problem, where these desperate people steal cables and anything that can be traded for a meal. So, at this stage the internet is only available in the bigger metropolitan areas. It makes sense, doesn't it? Imagine how easy it is to supply services to a very densely populated area like England and where everyone is literate, in a fixed abode and living above the poverty line.

South Africa is the most technically advanced country in Africa and not far behind the standards of the other technology rich countries, but we are seriously lacking in internet technology. The internet is still very new to South Africa and has only just begun to catch on. It is experiencing a phenomenal growth rate and more and more businesses and individuals are "hooking up". All of the major cities are able to offer various means of connection such as ADSL, bluetooth, wireless and people are getting connected on their pcs, laptops and cellphones. The rural areas are battling to get connected and the only option available to them at this stage is the old antiquated dial up system using a telephone line, or via satellite. Promises have been made by government, that in a few years, everyone will be able to get a telephone and therefore, will have internet access available to them. This represents an enormous potential for wary marketers.

This is the overview of the situation with internet access in Africa and more particularly, South Africa. In the next article, we will look at some of the problems faced by South African users and the effects they have on internet marketing.

Part 2

Recent political changes, have reversed the fortunes of the South African population, in that the previously disadvantaged black community, now have money and the fine things in life, including access to the internet. Whereas before they wouldn't have been considered a viable market, they are now able to access the internet and dabble in small business. They want more. The whites, on the other hand, now find themselves out of work, unsure of the future and desperately seeking an alternative means of income. Both groups make good target markets, and both are particularly keen on using the internet to improve their lot in life. Remember, the internet is the biggest employer in the world and does not recognise age, colour, education, physical disabilities, wealth etc. People hear of the successes achieved on the internet and are fooled into looking for a quick fix. The internet and marketing via this medium, gives everyone an equal opportunity, well, almost everyone. Not South Africans, unfortunately.

Something like 70% of the S.A internet community, access the internet on the computers at their places of employment and as much as two hours each workday, is lost to private usage of the internet. Obviously these people are not all looking for ways to make money, but a large percentage are. These people who are newly exposed to all the hype on the internet are easily sucked in to believing the sales pitch. A lot of money is being spent on all sorts of junk and causing many heartbroken families. I was like that too. I firmly believed I could make a lot of money on the internet and set about joining all sorts of schemes. They do not work, but these desperate and nave people don't know that. Imagine if it was possible to guide them, to channel all that energy and curiosity and of course all that money into your bank account? If those people all trusted you and listened to your advice, if you were able to develop well thought out plans and business opportunities? If those people all joined your membership site?

One of the biggest drawbacks in S.A is that the internet and allied services are still very expensive and difficulty in finding a good service provider. Other first world countries have direct, fast, unlimited service at very reasonable prices and if they do experience problems with the service provider, there are plenty of others to try. According to a recent survey, something like 70% of all internet users, regularly access the 'net from their places of employment. The employer provides pcs and internet for business purposes and these curious people cheat their employers, by using his service for private usage. People send emails to friends, go shopping, download files, look at pornography, play games, gamble and read classifieds and other adverts for a better job, or an easy method of earning more money. From this survey it was estimated that as much as 85% of this target group were looking for self employment opportunities. Now, that's a lot of people! If the price of internet access was cheaper, all these people would use it at home. In fact, most do have internet access at home, but due to small caps on their usage and exorbitant prices, they rather use the employer's service. My point is that millions are searching for opportunities on the internet and the fact that crime is rampant only makes them more determined, to start a business from home. This is a huge potential for marketers. So what is the problem? Why are more South Africans actively getting involved? In the next article, we will start looking at these problem areas.

Part 3

As the internet is still relatively new to South Africa, we don't have many experts, or experience in the field. Those calling themselves experts, have only a limited knowledge and are far too expensive, when compared to overseas competitors. Simple things like service provision, web hosting, design and site building, software, tools, optimisation and advertising, are grossly overpriced. In most cases, they are bought overseas and resold here. I was given a quote, last month, of R120 ($17) per month, for basic, small webhosting service, excluding the domain registration and excluding the internet service provision. That was only the hosting! I was quoted R6000 ($857) for a designer, to look at one of my websites and to make a couple of small changes. It is crazy. We pay between R8 and R12 for an mp3 song, which costs from 10c to 90c in the U.S.A.

The state owned telecommunications company, Telkom, have the monopoly and squash all opposition. This has led to very highly priced access and an indifferent service. Nearly all packages offered by them, or sub contactor service providers, are restricted and capped. The actual service, the technical help and the customer relations are dreadful. The dial up service is very unreliable, the speeds are far lower than advertised, due to the poor state of the physical 'phone lines and the modems cost the earth. Take the U.S.A for example, where there are something like 800 million people with regular access and hundreds of competitors all offering better prices. The internet is a way of life and the huge speeds and download capabilities are taken for granted. In South Africa only something like 27 million have any form of access, largely due to the high costs. I got a quote from Telkom last week for satellite service. The basic installation cost is R3100 ($443), paid upfront. The monthly rental for the satellite service, capped at 3 Gigs, is R1263 ($180) and I still need a service provider who comes in at a basic charge of R284 ($40) plus consumption and of course I still need to keep my basic phone service for R110 ($16) plus call usage. Once the cap is reached, the service is suspended and additional packages can be purchased for R120 ($17) per 250 Megs. So in all it will cost me, monthly, around R2317 ($331) for a basic internet service of 4Gigs and a phone at home. Obviously there are cheaper options available in the cities, but living out of town, there is no choice. By the way, a friend living in the U.S.A got a similar quote for only $40 (R280) per month and his service boasted more facilities and no capping whatsoever.

For some reason, probably the old apartheid days, South Africa was boycotted by the wealthy first world countries and nobody has told them yet, that times have changed. South Africans suffer many discriminatory obstacles in the use of the internet and over the last few years, I have repeatedly been stumped by these. I have two messages of advice here. To the frustrated, aspirant South African marketers and those who will follow shortly, stop and listen. Do not waste more time and money trying all sorts of offers, you will not succeed. Rather use the time to brush up on your skills. Select a market niche and learn to use control panel, FTP, html, php, hyperlinks and all the other things, that will help you to run your business. Wait for the solution. I have enlisted the help of two of the world's top marketers to find a way around the problems, for you. To the marketers who are knowingly, or unknowingly discriminating against certain countries, you are leaving money on the table and missing out on a huge potential market. But, that's okay, I'll take it. These are some of the more general problems experienced by South Africans. In the next article, we will look at some of the specific problems affecting our marketing abilities.

Part 4

By now, you are probably wondering what other problems I'm talking about and how they are affecting our chances of success. If you have been involved for a while, you have probably encountered a few of these yourself and if you are a newbie, you are likely to still come across these problems soon.

There are obvious generalities that exclude South Africans from participating. We joined about 163 survey companies, when we first started out on the internet. We soon found out that most were American companies and only for Americans. That makes sense, when the product, or service being rated is only available there, but why do they mislead us and take our money. You must have seen the misleading ads about how quick and easy it is to earn money by doing simple surveys. A lot of them claim to be international, for anybody who understands English. The same thing happens. You are invited to do the survey, but as soon as you type in your address, you are told it is not available in your area. We wasted a lot of money on these. The foolproof unconditional money back guarantees are a lot of hogwash. Just ignore them.

The same thing happened with the typing services. My wife joined a few of them, with the promise, that as long as she had a basic working knowledge of English, no experience was necessary. Money as easy and fast to earn, on simple assignments. Well, she wasn't given any assignments and on enquiring as to the reason, she was told that we spell differently. That was not ever mentioned at the time of joining and was also money wasted. For Pete's sake, we speak and spell correctly. It is the Americans who changed the language.

We also joined a lot of companies who promised to pay us for surfing and reading emails. We worked our butts off and eventually, after almost a year, had earned a whopping $247000! We tried to cash in, but were then told that no cheques could be issued. Monies were only paid into American bank accounts. They said they were an international company and anyone in the world could join. But, not get paid.

We often see special promos on free hosting, free domain registration and other all too important services. All looks great from the outside, but as soon as we apply we find out that we are unfortunately not eligible. I don't know how many times I have won prizes. Cash, free products, a trip, ocean cruises, but on trying to claim them, I'm told they don't apply to South Africans.

Very often, freebies are included to sweeten a deal. I joined a music site for mp3 downloads. The price was inclusive of a whole bunch of bonuses. I was to get meal tickets, petrol (gas) coupons, membership of some or other club, discounts on shopping, blah, blah, blah. Needles to say, I joined and paid full price, but never got any of the goodies that all my American counterparts received. I am very into music and 2 years ago I purchased Music Match Jukebox, with free updates for life, access to the online music shop and full usage of something I think was called Radio Gold. It was full access to 150 live radio stations. After I received my purchase, all I had was the jukebox and the promise of updates. On enquiry, I was told "Sorry, but this offer doesn't apply to you", but I paid the full price. Why don't they tell us before we pay? Why don't we get a discount? This seems to be common practice and apart from the obvious discrimination and disappointment is false advertising.

Anyway, these are some problems I have experienced, but not really connected in any way to our functionality at internet marketing. What are the problems facing South African marketers? More in the next article.

Part 5

We have covered quite a few problems facing South Africans already and here are some more.

Overseas companies, particularly those in the U.S.A, offering opportunities, services and resources, usually require a fixed email address, at the time of joining. This is to prevent temporary accounts and others such as Hotmail, from being used, as it is very easy to cancel, or change, after joining and the marketer is left with a useless address, in his contact list. South Africans have another problem, in that most of our suffixes, such as .co.za, telkomsa, za, are not allowed. Usually your country is required and many of the drop down menus have small, insignificant countries such as Zimbabwe, Malawi, Mauritius, Ivory Coast listed, but not South Africa. So we have to get ourselves an email address with an overseas company, just to comply. Why?

We, as South Africans, have no shopping carts, or payment processors, suitable for international use, or integration, into overseas websites and the biggest culprit is PayPay. They are the first choice, worldwide and any marketer not offering PayPal, as a means of payment, is seriously disadvantaged. Why then, do they not deal with South Africa? Sure, you can make a purchase through them, but they will not collect monies for you, or allow you to make a withdrawal, if you are South African. Other smaller countries are catered for, but not S.A. There are other options, but none as popular. Most payments, affiliate plans and opportunities, pay through PayPal. I joined dozens of respected affiliate plans and spent a great deal of effort, on advertising, before I found out the truth.

A few months ago, I was experiencing the common problems all new marketers face. I knew what I wanted to do, but not how to actually get it done. I'm talking about the setting up, in order to start business. I needed a domain name, a website, content and products, a hosting service, a shopping cart, a mailing list facility, a form for grabbing visitor's details, a payment processor, or two, etc etc. You know what I'm talking about. There are so many options available. The web is full of them. Some are free, some cheap, some having special offers, but which was the best for my needs? Nobody tells you that sort of information. How much space do you need for a bookstore, how much bandwidth do you need for customer downloads? How does the speed affect you? I had played around a bit with wysiwyg editors and done a little html coding. I had used a couple of free websites and hey, the last one I built without their website templated builder. I thought I was getting good, but still a little out of my depth. That scared me a bit, so I decided to look for a ready made, turnkey business. They all say the only thing you need to do is to enter your password and account details, then sit back and watch the money roll in. Well I eventually found something that sounded ideal. It was expensive, but I thought I would be saving in the long run. I wanted to sell ebooks, articles, plr, courses and so on. I paid for this business, as I had seen the example and even test drove the shopping cart prior to purchase. Just when I thought I had found a shortcut to starting my business, the problems began. What problems? Read the next article to find out and to see the solution.

Part 6

We were talking about the problems I encountered after I had bought the bookstore. Well firstly, the whole bookstore was inphp with cpanel control panel, my sql and a whole lot of Greek terms. You remember I had worked with online and offline editors in wysiwyg and a little html. Well now I was lost. I was warned not to try to edit in an html editor, or I would corrupt the php. I had never used these before and couldn't understand why I couldn't find the pages, to edit them. Then I found that the currencies shown on the products were not compatible with the Rand, but I thought so what, I'll just sell in dollars. Then I found that PayPal was not an option. Damn, but hey, I could still use NoChex, or the other one, I forget the name. No way, Jose, those weren't allowed either. I had to have a banking account in USA or UK. I eventually got EGold to work, but how many people pay with gold? That bookstore is still sitting, gathering dust.

There are no local, South African internet companies, for memberships, product sourcing, resources, search engine optimisation etc, so we have to look abroad. Although these are offered reasonably, overseas, we are still subjected to the exchange rate. At present the rate is 7 to the $, 14 to the Pound and around 9 to the Euro, but even so, it is usually cheaper, than our own prices and of course you are spoilt for choice.

Training is another area seriously lacking. With all the conferences, seminars, teleseminars, video training and group discussions unavailable to us in S.A, how are we expected to learn and to keep abreast of developments? Dial up is not powerful enough and anyway it is limited to times between 7pm and 7am, which is a bad time, as even if you stay up all night, it is roughly midnight to midmorning in the States. So how do we learn?

So, with a very limited number of companies prepared to do business with us, with our lack of choice, with our very expensive internet service, with very little access to all the great offers, with our SA email addresses, with our antiquated dial ups, without access to genuine training videos, with the exorbitant exchange rate, with our different spelling, without any reciprocal banks or payment processors, without a compatible shopping cart, with the scams and rip offs and all the rest we have discussed, can South Africans ever hope to get involved in internet marketing?

The truth is rather bleak. Nobody is worried about us, or the problems we have and nobody seems to care. The big "guru" marketers don't seem to be able to think outside their statelines and regard us as a waste of time. They are happy to take our money, though. But wait, there does seem to be a solution for you. As I said earlier, I have teamed up with two of the world's top marketers and together, we are trying to resolve these issues. We will put together a complete, turnkey package deal, a ready to run business, with domain, hosting, website, content, decent affiliate plans, a stream of products, an exclusive membership, a working shopping cart and payment processor, training and ongoing support, a proven plan, optimisation, adsense and other monetised methods for those poor South Africans, who want to be marketers. Most insurance companies offer instant or nearly instant policy quotes. In just a few minutes, you'll be able to compare the rates and coverage offered by a wide variety of insurance companies. You can even get comparison services so that you won't have to do this manually.

Buying van insurance online can occur entirely via the Internet, or you can combine online and offline services to get the best insurance. Some insurance providers permit you to get all of your quotes, policy information, and applications dealt with through the Internet. You can apply and pay without ever leaving your desk. This method of buying insurance is one of the most convenient. If you're not comfortable with that, and would like a slightly more traditional method, you have the option of applying for your insurance over the phone or in an office, once you've selected your favorite quote.

Buying van insurance online offers convenience and ease of application. You won't have to take time out to travel, or find yourself endlessly on hold. It's possible to get your quote, apply, and pay within minutes of one another. This can save a busy person a great deal of time.

Van insurance online can also be cheaper. There's less overhead for the insurance company, and more options to compare policies. This means that you have a good chance of getting the best deals on many different kinds of insurance policies by shopping online.

There are also some disadvantages to purchasing your van insurance policy over the Internet. The biggest one is that the process is quite impersonal. It's also hard to get a truly personalized policy, so if you have special circumstances or addons, you may wish to speak to someone in person. However, going online to shop around can still be smart, as it gives you access to a lot of information quickly. Armed with that information, you can then choose to do the rest of your shopping the more conventional way. No matter how you buy insurance, remember that the most important part of getting a good deal is shopping smart and making certain that you buy the right van insurance online.

Peter Fitzpatrick is a Marketing Professional for many of the UK's Leading Commercial Insurance companies. For some families, one holiday tradition may include an uncle getting dressed up as Santa Claus. In another family, Christmas Eve dinner may top the tradition list. Some traditions are passed on from generation to generation, while others are created as families grow and change. While there is no way to create a comprehensive list of traditions, the following list highlights ten traditions that are representative of American families celebrating Christmas.

Number 10: Caroling. This tradition may not be as popular today as it once was. Perhaps its because too many people live in the suburbs, where houses are far away and neighborhoods are not as close knit as they used to be. But singing among family members and classmates still tops the hearts of many folks. Many of us can remember caroling around the nursing home with our friends or bundling up to hit the streets on a cold winters evening.

Number 9: Greeting Cards. What American holiday would be complete without greetings cards? The first Christmas card appeared in London in 1843 and became popular in America around 1875. Today many families send Christmas cards to their friends and family across the United States and even around the world. Some busy families include personalized letters reviewing the past year for their loved ones, while other families prefer to send cards featuring a recent family photo.

Number 8: Shopping. Christmas shopping season officially begins the day after Thanksgiving and continues until Christmas day. To some folks, its the most enjoyable part of the season. To others, shopping is one big necessary headache. Internet shopping has recently changed the face of holiday shopping forever, and men across world have been cheering! But no matter how popular internet shopping has become, nothing can compare to an old fashioned holiday shopping trip to see the lights, hear the bells, and smell the holiday excitement.

Number 7: Movies. For many families, the month of December becomes one long trip through Christmas movie nostalgia. Not only do the TV channels rebroadcast all of the old favorite Christmas movies, but the true movie-fan family also has DVDs and tapes of all their own favorites. Whether you fancy Rudolph or George Bailey, movies help families gear up their Christmas spirit in the days leading up to the festive day.

Number 6: Party. Christmas parties have become an essential part of the American holiday season, and the office Christmas party is a notoriously good time. The Christmas party can be one of two things. One, the party can be the chance to see old friends and colleagues, and make new ones under the mistletoe. Or the Christmas party can be a chance to create stories for the rest of the office to share over the New Year.

Number 5: Eggnog. This holiday treat is often linked to Number 6, and perhaps is a lot of the problem with Number 6.

Number 4: Cookies. For children and grownups alike, this may be the best Christmas tradition of all. Every holiday season, children of all ages bake up an assortment of their Christmas cookie specialties, while the rest of the family anxiously waits to taste their wonderful creations.

Number 3: Stockings. Each Christmas season, stockings can be found throughout American homes. Stockings may include gag gifts, like coal, or little gifts, like candy, CDs, and socks. Either way, hanging a stocking from the fireplace mantle is as much of a part of Christmas as Santa Claus and Rudolph.

Number 2: Christmas lights. Speaking of Santa and Rudolph, how else can they find your house on Christmas Eve without a little help from decorations all over your abode? The brilliant colors and cheer of Christmas decorations on a home is enough to warm the heart of even the biggest Grinch. Just be careful not to pull a Clark Griswold!

Number 1: Christmas Tree. Besides the manger scene, there is not a better known symbol of Christmas than the Christmas tree. Trees around the United States are fully decked out in lights, ornaments, and a star on top, waiting for Santa to come and fill the underneath with presents for the entire family.

Whether your favorite Christmas tradition made our list or not, the most important thing to remember this holiday season is to make cherished memories with your loved ones. Celebrate deep-rooted traditions and continue to create new holiday traditions to share with your family and friends.

Thomas Easterday is the Director of Marketing for Letter By Santa. New would-be homeowners are looking for ways to simply just secure financing that they forget that they are the ones in control of their terms. To help you get the best mortgage deal for your current financial situation and for your future, here are three steps you will want to take.

Before you can take advantage of any of these steps, it will help if you to gain a basic understanding of the mortgage process and terms you might run across as you begin your search. There are a number of helpful books and websites you might want to look into that can help you begin to find your footing in this maze of mortgage-speak.

First of all, you need to look at the lending information from several different lenders. You have a number of options for borrowing money - credit unions, banks, thrift institutions, and mortgage companies. So, with those places in mind, you will want to start asking around for the amount of money that you will want to borrow to see what offers you might get. And while a mortgage broker can do this footwork for you, they will need to be paid for their services, which may not be something you want to pay. However, their services are worth it due to their experience and how many lenders they can access.

The next step in finding a mortgage is to start asking these lending institutions what kinds of terms they can offer you. The most important term that you will come across is the rate of interest. When you are purchasing a home, you will be paying not only money for the house itself, but also for the borrowing of the money - interest. This allows the lender to make money from your transaction as most interest is calculated over the time period and the amount of the loan. Thus, the longer and bigger the loan, the more money they will make. But since you're interested in paying for a home and not the bank, you will want to start looking for the lowest rates you can.

You will find that rates are divided into fixed and adjustable. You will want to make sure that the lenders are up front about how current their latest posted rates are. Note that fixed rates mean that your mortgage payments will not change, while adjustable rates will make your monthly payment vary. In addition to the interest rate, you will want to get a thorough explanation of the points and the APR associated with the lender to get a comprehensive idea of what a loan from them will entail.

The third step in shopping for a mortgage is often the most intimidating for the borrower and that's negotiation. You have a right to negotiate for the terms that you want, though you might not get them. It will help as you are looking at the various lending institutions if you begin to create an 'ideal' mortgage plan in your head. That way, you can talk to other lenders about what other institutions have offered you so that they can match that price or reduce their rates to attract your business.

You are in the driver's seat when it comes to your mortgage, so be sure to speak up when you think something is too high or ask for an explanation of every number that you see. If you're not happy, you can always look elsewhere for a lender.

Grant Eckert is a writer for ShopRate.com. Other noted publications have ranked Maryville as one of the top places in the nation to retire.

Eight years later, the sleepy little town of Maryville is still enjoying a boom in its population and its economics. People are moving to Maryville from the northern states and southern states as well as nations from around the world. Because of this, real estate and home sales, new and used, are on the rise while much of the country is in a slump. New storefronts and restaurants are popping up all over the county while acreage next to main thoroughfares is being bought up in droves.

An increase in population attracts new businesses, but what attracts all these outsiders to purchase a home and relocate to Maryville? The main reason is location. Maryville is located near a major city, a highly popular vacation destination, and the most visited nation parks in the country.

Fifteen minutes to the north is Knoxville, with all the flare of a big city. Residents of Maryville commute to Knoxville for work, shopping, and entertainment. Knoxville boasts two large malls and countless numbers of shopping centers and storefronts. Fine and fast food restaurants also litter the streets of Knoxville. However, we can't talk about Knoxville without mentioning the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame and Neyland Stadium, one of the largest college football stadiums in the country and where the University of Tennessee Volunteers football team plays their home games. Go Big Orange!

Forty minutes to the east of Maryville are Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. In Pigeon Forge visitors can shop, play putt-putt, drive go-carts, attend dinner shows, and much more. Also located in Pigeon Forge is DollyWood, the entertainment park owned by Dolly Parton. Gatlinburg is most known for its Ripley's Believe It or Not Museum and Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies. Visitors can also visit Ober Gatlinburg Ski Resort and the Space Needle, which offers a 342 foot aerial view of downtown Gatlinburg and the surrounding mountains.

Thirty minutes to the southeast of Maryville is the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The beauty of the mountains, the diversity of wildlife, and the tranquility of nature draw in over 9 million visitors each year making the GSMNP the most visited national park. A popular destination in the park is Cades Cove. Cades Cove is an 11-mile one-way road that winds visitors through a lush valley of fields and woods that are teeming with wildlife such as deer, bear, and an occasional fox.

Maryville also affords many recreational opportunities. Fort Loudon Lake is part of the Tennessee River, which borders Blount County to the north and west. Boaters take to the lake for fishing and skiing. The mountains offer some of the best hiking, biking, and camping available anywhere. Hunting is also a favorite past time for some residents of Maryville.

Maryville, TN has peaceful setting of a rural community with all the advantages of a big city. Factor in low real estate prices, excellent schools, plenty of jobs and career opportunities, and low crime rates and Maryville may just be the perfect place to live.

Derrick Walker is the webmaster for http://www.maryvillehome.com , which displays Maryville TN real estate properties for sale.

Sex Is At The Heart of Web Sales

When you're designing your web business and writing your sales messages which sex are you designing and writing for? Bet you've never thought about it! Yet there are profound differences between men and women in the world of shopping and you'd better start thinking about them, because women outrank men when it comes to buying stuff!

Let's start with three powerful thoughts:

* Women Spend the money: Women instigate, control or complete over 80% of all retail purchases and they constitute over 50% of all corporate purchsing officers (Statistics are for North America).

* Women earn or control the money: Women on average in North America have pretty much reached wage parity (when you correct for part time and child bearing), but more important they are significant household breadwinners, and either own or will control (as baby boomer women are widowed) the bulk of the capital Women are going to OVERWHELM men economically in the upcoming generation: Women outshine men at school, are taking more degrees, are dominating some faculties and pouring into the high paid professions.

* Women already DOMINATE commerce on the web: By 2000 more women used the web than men, and 6 out of 10 new web users are women and amongst those wired women 83% are primary financial decision makers There's more! I just didn't want to depress the guys too much.

Have you got the message yet?

If you want to sell something on the web, a woman is very likely the customer and almost certainly the researcher.

So What? The so what of this lies in the fact that women's buying behavior is radically different from men's. There are Rules for Selling to Women, here's three to get you started:

Rule 1: Men and women are constructed differently.

Stop giggling!!! There is absolute scientific evidence that women smell, hear, see, touch, and process information and emotions differently from men - differences rooted physically in the way brains develop. Iin the eighth week of pregnancy boy's brains are flooded with testosterone reshaping their brain structure away from emotion, communication and empathy and toward aggression and sex drive. This causes deep differences in the way men and women experience the world including shopping.

Rule 2: Women and Men are motivated and driven by very different perspectives on life

If you are writing web text or a sales letter, we feel these different life experiences would lead to different hot buttons' and ways of communicating as between women and men. Women are driven by community, connectedness, nurturing, safety and their brain circuits favor commnication, gut feelings, emotional memory, and anger suppression. Women also have superior verbal skills.

Rule 3: Women have a very particular and specific shopping pattern

Men are famous for rushing to the store for a single purchase that they make quickly with minimal research and often on impulse. Women don't do that: they make multiple purchases in one trip, are more likely to research the purchase, more likely to take it back, and less likely to be impulsive. Some thoughts:

Women are demanding in making the initial purchase in a category, they recoup their time investment by staying more loyal to the brand they've chosen in subsequent purchase cycles increasing retention rates

Word-of-mouth recommendation is more prevalent among women, they are more likely to recommend to others those brands or salespeople that impress them favorably -- in essence, free marketing of the most powerful kind..

The big risk capturing women and losing men. Well, it turns out not to be a risk at all. Companies have found that marketing and service improvements designed to enhance brand appeal among women have resulted in greater customer satisfaction among men as well. The reason? In many respects, women want all the same things as men - and then some. Accordingly, when you meet the higher expectations of women, you are more than fulfilling the demands of men. Experience indicates that men do not abandon brands that tilt the purchase experience toward women. However, we would point out that economically, given the purchase and money data shown earlier who cares if you lose a few low value male customers?!!!!!

If you're a man (or a woman who's been brought up on traditional methods), isn't it worth re-orienting your thinking. Absolutely! If you think 80% of the market is worth it. And don't forget, after lots of male-orientation, in many categories, the traditional male targets are saturated; the corresponding women's segments are untapped and virtually uncontested by competition.

Michael Kay is Research Director of HBB Research a business school based research program looking at web home-based business. I suppose you could set a limit and say "I won't ride if the winds gust above 30 MPH... but what fun would that be? On a day like today (50 degrees and sunny) can you imagine not riding because of the wind?

(Note: I do have my limits for things like temperatures and I suppose if the winds were above 40 MPH I would probably not ride. Just use your common sense and set your "personal limits" based on your bike limits and rider skill level).

Aircraft pilots often refer to the season change from fall to winter as the "bumpy flight time" because Mother Nature has to use lots of wind to "push summer way" (likewise during the spring to summer change). Whatever the reason... the reality is strong and gusty winds on the ground (for us bikers) as well as in the air during this time of year and we have to know how to ride with these winds.

For most motorcycles, gusty winds are just an annoyance requiring some mild adjustments while riding. On a chopper, a gusty wind will feel like someone is standing beside the bike and is taking their best foot and pressing hard (in a sideways) direction right on the forward control peg (left or right depending on the direction of the wind). I am not sure if this is due to flex in the long forks, the rake, or both but it can make for a strange feeling like the front tire is going to slip out from under you.

So, I have found the best technique for dealing with strong and gusty winds is to ride in the center section of my lane (if the pavement and traffic conditions allow it) and maintain a strong grip on the handlebars while being relaxed enough to adjust as needed during and after the gusts. Like most conditions that deal with handling... slowing down can be a good option too... especially while in heavy traffic during these conditions.

Ride steady!

Ron Gallagher operates his web-based development business http://www.ROAT.com and writes a blog http://www.HowToRideChoppers.com. What's even easier is ending up with mediocre results. With just a little more attention you can turn average into spectacular. Most standard video editors, such as the one that comes bundled into Windows, Microsoft's Movie Maker, have many features that, if used with some restraint, can help polish the finished product. With a little planning and some time spent in planning before compiling, you can make some memorable videos, and enhance your memories and your video records.

Here are some general rules that I like to follow:

* Keep it simple; a well-thought out five minute video is far more effective than a thirty-minute, no cuts, no-breaks-taken video. It's OK to think in terms of chapters and to make each one a separate file. You can always combine them into longer works.

* Keep everything simple; pick just a few transitions and reuse them sparingly; avoid the temptation to apply all those radical filters. If you choose to use a special effect, use it once and make it count. If you are using still images, a simple fade transition works best.

* Choose a reasonable scene length. If you shoot ten minutes of video without pause, experiment with breaking it up into much shorter clips. Avoid the 3-second rule currently in vogue in commercials, where each scene only lasts 3 seconds. Some software will allow the program itself to break up any video file into several scenes, either by a detection algorithm, or by a set time span. Most can do this automatically.

* Edit edit edit. Good film making results in a fairly cluttered cutting room floor. Don't be afraid to edit out uncle Henry's silly dance. Consider editing out any really noticeable camera shakes. The idea is communicate the overall event or experience, not to record every single detail.

* Visual presentations must sound right. If you underestimate the power of sound, try watching a movie without the sound. You probably won't last five minutes. Most of us live in a world filled with sound, and your videos should pay as much attention to the sound as any other feature. You should consider an audio editor program that will allow you to do several things; you should be able to strip out the original sound; you should be able to overdub, or add your voice to the recorded video sound track; you should be able to enhance your voiceovers or the original sound. Video recorders are not the best sound recorders.

* Titles, not family genealogies. Titles are a very effective tool; they can set the mood, position the presentation, and focus attention. They should be brief and this is one place where it's OK to get a little crazy/creative. Slide in, fly out, different colors, interesting typefaces, go for it. Just don't overdo it.

A final word; you don't have to spend a fortune to have a full-featured video editing studio. I got ShowBiz, an ArcSoft product bundled into some burner software; it is a fully capable video editor. Avnex makes audio and video editors and morphers that you can download and try for free at www.audio4fun.com. Their Voice Changer Software Diamond 4.0 is one of my favorites, as it does for audio what the video editors do for visuals. Microsoft's Movie Maker and Movie Maker II are also very capable video editors. And finally, don't be afraid to experiment and to try altering the combinations of elements as you develop your video. Most programs will let you save elements as 'projects', which allows you access to the individual elements over and over. By following these simple steps and thinking creatively you can raise your home videos to a new level.

Wayne Rice is a freelance journalist, copywriter, photographer and artist. It is just as difficult to make money on the internet as it is to make money with a "bricks and mortar" business, but on the internet, it is possible to get started with very little money. The ways to make money on the internet are as infinite as your imagination and if you combine those two points there is one absolute. Don't part with any money until you are certain about what you are purchasing.

I have found that the real, honest to goodness organizations that you can "joint venture" with, or work for, present their offers to you in a truly transparent manner. The best of the best, will grant you full access to their methods of conducting business online without any prerequisite for you to part with your money.

In your search for ways to make money on the internet, very often you will be presented with offers to be a re-seller. This means you buy information to sell on to others. Frequently, this information is about how someone has made hundreds of thousands of dollars, possibly millions of dollars, by using techniques obtained through purchasing an e-book for seemingly very little money. The impression is that the "up-side" is so massive as to make the purchase price appear trivial.

Take care. Commonly, the person selling the information has made a fortune using methods that exploit a loop-hole in a service. However, the service-provider maybe closing the loop-hole. You could be too late to gain any advantage using the tactics yourself and word may have spread, making it very difficult to sell the information onwards.

Always ask yourself why the person is offering this information to the public at large. After all, if the biggest businesses go to incredible lengths to keep their money making methods secret, don't you think that anyone who has successfully discovered how to make money on the internet would do the same. However, there are always exceptions.

Sometimes you can be a re-seller for a service, such as web-hosting, or an auto-responder for example. Such services are based on an ongoing subscription and may be linked to an affiliate program. In such circumstances, it is understandable to be offered the opportunity to be a re-seller. The person offering you the service will continue making money on your subscription and you will continue to make money on the internet for the lifetime of your customer's subscriptions.

Gordon Milton is a successful internet marketer who uses a completely different, proven approach to building a business. Ever been curious if this is possible for you?

It is one thing to generate attraction in a woman with lines and gimmicks. It is quite another to understand how to be an attractive man. Master this, and you guarantee long-term success with women.

One thing Mike and I cover in massive detail in our Natural Attraction audio program and our ebook, How To Get A Girlfriend is how to be an attractive man who effortlessly magnetizes women TOWARD you. Today, we want to cover the simplest way that you can improve your chances with women IMMEDIATELY. So, lets get started.

So many guys who come to us for advice with women and dating all say the same things:

I want to have choice with women
I am sick and tired of being alone
I can get women, just not the ones I want
I feel empty when I don't have a girl with me
I am just unhappy, and I figure if I could get a girlfriend, that would fix it

These are all valid and very common things for a guy who struggles with women to say. However, there is one big thing that most of these guys lack, and that is simply they don't know what they want.

I know, you are probably saying (maybe even aloud at the computer screen) I know what I want, I just told you that I want a girlfriend!

The key to knowing what you want, is to start with yourself. Nothing outside of you is going to complete you! Master this, my friend, and you empower yourself to know what is acceptable and what is unacceptable.

When you cut to the chase with most guys, what they suffer from is a lack of power in order to get power, you MUST know what you want. This is the first step.

Let me be honest with you, when I first got involved in learning the very valuable material which exists for meeting women, I really wanted to just be able to go out on any given night, and get laid. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this, and I got to be incredibly good at it.

The problem is, it didn't fix the problem. I still felt a great deal of emptiness, and secretly knew that I wasn't really meeting the potential I knew I had.

It was a game for sure, but I was only barely playing it, and nowhere close to the end zone.

What became clear to me was that I really didn't know what I wanted.

I needed to understand both what kind of dating lifestyle I wanted, and then, what kind of woman (or women) I saw participating in this lifestyle with me.

So, right now, ask yourself what dating lifestyle are you looking for? What do you want out of your relationships with women?

Do I want to get laid tonight?
Do I want the power of choice in meeting women?
Do I want to meet really hot women whenever I want?
Do I want to find a girlfriend that I can settle down with, and fall in love (gasp)?
Do I want to get married?
Do I want ALL OF THESE?

What is it guys? Any of these are viable choices. The one thing that is indisputable, from which there is no escape, is that you have to start with YOU first.

Now that you know what lifestyle you want to build, lets see what kind of woman will fit into this lifestyle. Again, power comes from knowing what you want. So, lets be specific about the kind of woman you see yourself with.

As an exercise, take out a pen and paper and list the aspects that you desire in a woman. Then, write down the aspects that you definitely do NOT desire a list of what turns you off.

>From this, you now have a much stronger sense of what lifestyle you desire, and then, the kind of women you want to be a part of this lifestyle. This exercise always yields incredible results, as you now have actual information to drive you forward.

You have to know what you want before you can choose who you wish to be with.

As a caveat, it is important that you first be honest with yourself about what you are seeking. It is also important that you be honest with the women you become involved with. Nothing leads to bad karma like masquerading as husband material when all you are looking for is sex.

Be honest with yourself and with others, and youll get what you want. You can count on that.

Stephen NashViewsonic Pj258d

Everything You Need To Know About Home Theatre Receivers

The brains and nerve center of your system.

Receivers perform many different important functions in your system. Along with being the central audio and video switching station, they handle audio signal processing and amplification, radio tuning, and, in some high-end models, upconversion of standard video signals for high-def output through Component Video or HDMI jacks. Other features you'll find on receivers include ports for connecting an XM satellite radio antenna or iPod. Since the receiver is such a key component, it's important to do your homework and select one that provides enough input and output connections to accommodate all your audio and video sources.

Stereo, 5.1, 6.1, and 7.1-channel receivers explained

Any receiver can handle two-channel stereo playback, but a basic model should also come equipped with Dolby Digital and, in most cases, DTS surround sound processing - an alternative digital soundtrack format that's found on some DVDs. Both of these formats use five discrete audio channels plus a special low frequency (bass) effects channel to deliver immersive, near-movie theater quality sound from DVDs or high-definition sources. Most step-up receivers add on Dolby Digital EX and DTS-ES processing. These modes make use of an additional "back" surround channel to extend the sonic possibilities of Dolby Digital and DTS even further.

The most common type of receiver -5.1-channel models- decode the audio information contained in Dolby Digital and DTS soundtracks and route them to front left and right, center, and surround speakers in your system via their five built-in amplifier channels. (The .1, or low frequency effects, channel in a movie soundtrack gets directed to a powered subwoofer with its own on-board amplifier.)

Along with providing all the functionality of a 5.1-channel receiver, 6.1-channel models include an additional amp channel to drive a back surround speaker when watching DVDs encoded with Dolby Digital EX or DTS-ES soundtracks. The main benefit to the back surround channel is that it creates an even more realistic surround sound experience - one that's closer to what you'd hear in a well-equipped movie theater.

7.1-channel receivers are basically the same as 6.1-channel models, but they include yet another amp channel to drive a second back surround speaker. In this case, the audio information going to both back speakers is identical; it's just distributed between the two back speakers to create an even more expansive rear sound field. The specifications for the new HD DVD and Blu-ray disc formats allow for soundtracks with up to 7.1 discrete audio channels. So while a 7.1-channel receiver might seem like overkill, right now it's a more future-proof option than 5.1 and 6.1 models.

Audio formats - Dolby Digital, DTS, THX, and Dolby Headphone explained

As discussed in Stereo, 5.1, 6.1, and 7.1 surround sound explained, Dolby Digital and Dolby Digital EX, and DTS and DTS-ES are the main surround sound audio modes you'll find on both basic and step-up receivers. But higher-end models may offer even more processing modes. For example, THX-certified receivers feature something called THX Surround EX. This mode works alongside Dolby Digital EX processing to time-align a pair of back surround speakers in a 7.1-channel system and match their sound to the other speakers in the system. The end result is a more seamless, theater-like surround presentation when watching DVDs with Dolby Digital EX-encoded soundtracks. And then there's Dolby Headphone, a processing mode that brings the dynamic range, dialog clarity, and spatial effects of 5.1-channel Dolby Digital soundtracks to stereo headphone listening. Although using headphones in a fully equipped home theater might sound strange, it's a great option for late-night viewing when you don't want to disturb others in the house.

Basic receiver setup.

Basic receiver setup entails plugging in audio and video sources and running wire from the unit's back panel to your speaker's input connections. Most DVD players, CD changers, satellite receivers, and cable boxes provide a digital audio output along with a set of regular analog output jacks. You'll usually get better sound if you use this digital audio connection, and it's an absolute requirement to experience the 5.1-channel digital soundtracks on DVDs or HDTV programs. The rules for video setup on receivers are pretty much the same as those for audio. If your video source has a digital DVI or HDMI connection (and the receiver provides digital video switching) it will deliver better performance than analog Component Video, Composite and S-Video connections.

Speakers.

The sound coming from your receiver needs to be divided up to match the capabilities of the speakers used in the system. To do this effectively, a receiver's speaker setup menu lets you specify the size of individual speakers in the system as large or small, and asks whether or not you're using a subwoofer. The settings you select allow it to perform bass management, which determines the precise audio frequency at which bass signals are filtered out from the various speakers and sent on to the subwoofer (or to the main speakers, if a subwoofer isn't used). The next step is to measure the span from the speakers to your seating position and specify those distances in the setup menu. This allows the receiver to perform time-alignment - basically adding slight delay to the audio channels to create a more uniform surround sound effect. And the final setup task is to balance the output levels of each speaker in the system. This ensures that the sound coming from all speakers is equally loud - an important step for getting smooth dialog and realistic surround ambience. Some receivers perform the task automatically; with others, you need to use a sound-pressure level meter along with the receiver's built-in setup test tones to manually make the adjustments.

How many watts per Channel?

The amount of power you'll need from a receiver depends on two factors: room size, as well as the performance characteristics of the speakers you're pairing it with. An average power rating for a receiver is 100 watts per channel. That level of juice should be enough for a small to mid-size (80 to 200 square foot) home theater with a five satellite-plus-subwoofer speaker system. But large tower speakers - particularly those that use exotic technologies like planar-magnetic or electrostatic drivers - might require more amplifier power to handle the sonic peaks in an action movie than a 100 watt-per -channel receiver can provide.

Get the most out of your receiver and system

Since a receiver is the brain of your system, you should try to maximize its features to make your life easier and more enjoyable. At minimum, you'll want to take advantage of its tape loop functions to route signals to a CD- or DVD-recorder or VCR for basic audio and video recording. Many higher-end models also provide a multizone audio output that lets you direct stereo music or radio programs to a secondary room such as a dining area or kitchen.

Room Auto-EQ systems

A new feature found on some receivers is automatic equalization, or Auto-EQ. While this feature varies from receiver to receiver, it's typically used to improve sound quality by automatically adjusting parameters such as speaker crossover points. Auto-EQ can also adjust the bass and treble of individual audio channels to compensate for any issues with room acoustics. Receivers with Auto -EQ usually come with a small microphone that's used for initial setup. The receiver emits test tones from each speaker in sequence, while the microphone picks up the tones and provides feedback. This information is then used to automatically adjust speaker levels, speaker distance settings, and various EQ and room-correction functions.

Receiver or separate preamp/processor and amplifier

Buying a receiver with all its bundled extras is hands down the easiest way to get started when putting together a home theater. But there are also downsides to this approach. Stuffing numerous electronic components like a preamp/processor, multichannel amp, and radio tuner together in a single chassis can increase background noise levels -which is why audio purists prefer to buy those components separately. With new home theater innovations arriving at a lightning-fast pace, buying separate components also gives you insurance against obsolescence - you can upgrade your preamp/processor without having to buy a new amplifier, and vice-versa.

Microtek Lab Inc. is a consumer electronics company focused on scanners, plasma and lcd televisions, digital projectors, lcd monitors, digital cameras, home theatre equipment, and accessories. Well, good luck. I don't mean to be a pessimist but the cost of health insurance, even for an individual, has gone out of sight over the past few years. I was speaking to a family member recently and they told me that they were paying over $300.00 per month just for an individual health plan.

There are some things that you may be able to do in order to bring those premium payments down, however, you'll need to decide in the end if these would be in your best interest or not.

The first thing that you could do is to cut down on your coverage. This means getting the least expensive policy available and raising your deductible higher. This will mean that you'll likely be paying for all of your doctor visits out of your own pocket, but you should be covered for any unexpected accidents or any long term hospitalization costs, minus your deductible. This might be a feasible option if you think about it.

Example, if your current deductible is $250.00 and your premium payments are costing you $300.00 per month then you can probably reduce your monthly costs by half or more by raising your deductible up to $2,500 or even $5,000. I know, I know. Nobody wants to pay that much out of pocket, however, let's look at another example.

The average person only visits the doctor twice a year, once for a check-up and once for illness. If you figure the cost of those two visits combined to be in the range of $3-400.00, depending on what has to be taken care of, then you could potentially save a lot by raising your deductible. Look at the numbers. If you were able to cut your premium in half by raising your deductible then you're saving $150.00 per month or $1,800 per year. If you only payed $400.00 out of pocket then you've saved yourself $1,400 over the course of twelve months and you'll still be covered for emergency care.

The key to making this work is to put money in savings until you've saved a few hundred dollars and then leave it there specifically for doctor visits alone. This is only one option for you to consider when you get ready to purchase an individual health insurance plan.

Joe Stewart is a former Health Insurance agent that now provides expert information to others.Game Systems Nintendo Ds

Tips for Creating Good Website Designs

A lot can be said about Internet advertising and online commerce but there is no doubt that they are quite profitable business activities. Advertising on television or in print is less effective than promoting a company on the Internet. But to make a good online commercial targeted to millions of potential clients you need very good website designs. There is nothing more important than good website design when marketing a product online is concerned. You no longer need flashing three sentence ads in giant text on a white screen. Simply said, good website designs are high tech and eye pleasing. They actually resemble a television commercial.

Of course, only the good ones do. There are many websites which are not high tech and could not certainly be taken for good website designs. Personal pages could be loud and very colourful but it comes as a big surprise that many companies still rely on old school early 90s type of web design. There are two possible reasons why they dont have good websites designs. The first one is that they dont fully realize the importance of the good design in marketing and advertising on the Internet. The second reason might be for they dont consider Cyberspace as a major source of income. Though, it is certain that online business will keep on blooming in the years to come.

I suppose the major factor when designing a website is usability. A site with good usability means that not only is the site easy to use but it is also comprehensible for the potential customers. This is the bases for any good website designs.

Other important factors are good content and originality. A reader should have lots of information on display; they should be able to review discussions of a product and service. The content should be informative and interesting but professional, as well. Even though looks matter, good website designs are more about content that graphic production.

However the importance of graphics should not be underestimated. This includes colour, style of text, image and design graphics. You can give a more professional look to a website with a single line or a bullet well placed. Good website designs contain all these things. It is vital not to turn off customers by putting any pictures (whether of people or nature) if inappropriate to the setting. It is also important that graphics have good quality but low file size because if they dont meet these requirements then the customers might grow impatient while waiting for the file to load.

Other things which should be taken into considerations are compatibility and navigation. Apart from Internet Explorer there are people using Netscape or Firefox as their usual web browser. Thus it is important that the site is compatible with different web browsers or computers. Of course, this will make the designing of the web site harder but it would be worth it.

It might sound easy to have a good website but remember that good website designs are hard work and a billion dollar industry.

Morgan Hamilton offers expert advice and great tips regarding all aspects concerning computers. Dishes come in various sizes ranging from very small (in the centimeters) to many meters. In recent times with the increase in satellite transmission power people are able to get away with a much smaller dish then they did in the past. Typical size for coverage in many areas is 78 88 cms. (for the KU band if you are a beginner to satellite I recommend KU reception if it is available in your area). The LNB is the part on the end of the arm. It amplifies the very weak signals that are collected and reflected into it by the dish. This signal once amplified, is carried down the satellite cable to the satellite receiver. Here it is converted into a signal that your conventional television can understand. The satellite finder and charts are only used during the initial installation until you have a picture. The finder can then be removed. Your local satellite parts dealer will be best able to advise on the correct equipment and alignment procedures for your area. For people installing to the roof ensure you take all the necessary safety precautions. You are competent right? Along with this is the desire by many golfers to want "control" of their swing and where the ball will end up. These misguided desires are probably the biggest destroyers of confidence and a fluid swing. Instead of wanting "control," the golfer would be better served to think of wanting such positive mental attitudes as: "release" and "carefree" and "loose."

Just the word "control" itself tightens up your muscles when you think or say it.

I've heard golfers say that they have trouble with their emotions on the course and yet, at the office, they are able to remain cool, calm and collected in order to do their job well.

Let's look at a typical business negotiation and compare it to being on the course with regard to the meaning of "control."

Many high-performing business types are absolute masters of making a deal happen because they feel in control, and yet, they go out on the course and end up throwing clubs soon after. It doesn't have to be like that.

Feeling like you have "control" or not is completely all in your mind.

For instance,

In a business negotiation, any number of things could happen that are completely out of your control such as: 1. The client could get an emergency phone call at any moment taking him out of your meeting, 2. He could have a heart attack or stroke right there in the meeting 3. He could be in a bad mood from some unsettling business or personal news before the meeting that makes it all but impossible for him to focus on your pitch/idea. 4. He could have some sort of prejudice against you (race, age, etc.) before you even begin negotiations 5.He has some sort of psychological problem that overrides logic and reasoning at times. These issues and more easily could be in play and you have absolutely no control of these kinds of things.

Any one of these for the other person can derail any successful business outcome before you even have a chance. Even with all of that, most businesspeople would agree with you that they feel they still have a great deal of control, which is why they can be successful. And that is a good thing!

Now, let's compare to golf, where, you control everything!

You swing the clubs, you are in control of your own mind, you choose everything about how you decide to play the game. The only thing you don't ultimately control in playing golf is the weather and course conditions but even there, you can observe them and make adjustments for them.

So, objectively, you really have MORE control in golf than you do in a business negotiation setting because golf is usually played as an individual sport. You depend on nobody but yourself.

In the final analysis, I know what you mean when you say it feels like the golfer is not in control of his shots because I've been there. However, it's all in how you look at it, your internal representation (an NLP term) of the situation. If you look at your golf game with the idea that you feel you have no control over the situation, then you don't. And it will be even more difficult to succeed just as it would be if a businessperson had that same thought going into negotiations.

Starting to get the picture now?

Even successful business people don't succeed in closing every sale or in getting everything they want out of a deal. But, they sure go in thinking that THEY CAN! That's the same way of thinking we have to have with regard to control in our golf game.

Yes we stumble and fail (plenty!) , but, if we BELIEVE we have as much control over golf as we do in business, then we will succeed at golf even more than we have in businesss! Everything is relative and it all starts with how we represent a situation in our brain that is most influencing in an outcome. And if we know in advance that getting angry and frustrated will hinder our achieving our golf goal (just like it would in a business deal), then we can use that same skill we put to use in business to help us achieve that outcome. It's really no different except in how we think about it.

Perfectionism is not a bad thing either in my opinion. The desire to want to be perfect, to perform flawlessly is a driving force toward achievement and is useful. However, it's the EXPECTATIONS that get us into trouble. Strive for perfection, but be glad for everything is the secret to emotional control and success on the course.

Craig Sigl is a Certified Trainer and Master of Hypnotherapy, Time Line techniques and NLP. The show follows individuals as they fulfil their dream of building, renovating, or converting their dream home. In this particular episode, the refurbishment of a North London Victorian terrace, I wasnt particularly impressed with the results, but one item of furniture which made it into the finished article did catch my eye, and I quickly set about finding out more about this stylish and ground-breaking product.

The product was the Artcoustic Loudspeaker; a revolutionary, high-quality speaker that seamlessly blends into any home. Now you may doubt these words. After all, every home is different, and everyone has their own individual sense of style and taste. To compound this, the surrounding environment, furniture etc. bring yet another element just itching to clash with your audio-visual system. Not so!

Artcoustic have developed a loudspeaker with a sound quality amongst the finest HiFi loudspeakers. By housing each plasma speaker in a cabinet the depth of the average canvas, each wall-mountable with the least effort, and by offering a full range of artistic and interchangeable covers, the finished article resembles a work of art. Each Artcoustic loudspeaker can therefore be hung in any interior with no fear of appearing misplaced, whilst retaining the technical quality to satisfy the most ardent audiophile. The applications for these speakers are endless. By combining many smaller speakers, full surround sound capability can be supported, without the unsightly speaker stands and wires. By incorporating a larger subwoofer, you can really bring life to those action movies you love so much! Literally anywhere you would put artwork can now be fair game for the Artcoustic speaker.

Many chic hotels have incorporated these speakers into their rooms, bars and restaurants ... the ultimate endorsement. Cinemas have mounted them behind their screens to make the most of their space-saving capability. But in my opinion, it is in the home that the Artcoustic truly makes a difference. It will change the way you feel about audio visual systems. To label them as speakers that look like pictures would be doing them a massive disservice. But there are several positive aspects too and we should keep these in mind when television bashing gets going in full swing. With the proper guidance, T.V. makes a wonderful teaching tool and the earlier a child is introduced to the concept of using the TV as source of information, the better he/she will learn to avoid the less redeeming programs that are also available for viewing.

Enlarging Horizons

One of the benefits of having a vast network of channels is the number of programs available covering a range of topics. From the environment to music, animal welfare to fashion, science, art, religion, sport, politics - everything is discussed, debated and commented upon. The listeners are introduced to ideas and beliefs that may be alien to them or that they disagree with. What a wonderful opportunity for expanding a child's interests and intellectual curiosity.

Awareness of World Events

At no time in history has there been such easy access to world news, yet paradoxically children of all ages are amazingly unaware of what is happening around the world. Even when they have heard of an event, most have just the vaguest notion of who the actors are, the causes and the consequences of the occurrence and how or whether it would affect them. The future will be shaped by today's youth and it does not bode well if they profess an indifference to what goes on around them. With competing channels slanting the news according to their preference, children of today should be taught to listen, question and form their own opinions so that they do not become passive participants in their own destiny.

Sensitization to Evils of Violence

T.V. has often been blamed for children indulging in violent acts. Surely a truer explanation is that no one ever put the violent scenes seen on the small screen into their proper perspective for the child. Watching scenes of war or assault with a caring and concerned adult helps the child understand its terrible futility, how little is gained by resorting to force and the inevitable aftermath of such acts.

Enhances Sense of Empathy

Everyday brings its own tales of woe from different parts of the world. Does this make a child "tune out" due to overload or does it sharpen his sense of empathy, make him more altruistic, make him determined to do something positive with his life? Children are generally idealistic and have a strong sense of right and wrong. It is the manner in which these traits are developed or not that determines the type of adult the child will grow into.

Enables Parent to Talk about Sensitive Subjects

Sometimes it is difficult for parents to broach a topic with their child either because they feel embarrassed or are not sure of the response on direct questioning. It may be about drug use, sexual issues, adoption, problems at school, choice of friends - anything that involves the child and his/her life. Sometimes the older the child is, the greater the hesitancy seems to be. Watching a program on T.V. together, concerning a subject the parent wishes to talk about, opens the door to discussion in general terms which in turn can lead to the specific.

Technology plays a larger part in our lives than we ever imagined and it is only right that instead of wasting the opportunity or turning our backs on it, we harness its great potential to mould and develop our children's attitudes and responses to the world we all inhabit.

Naresh Belliyappa is a software engineer and website developer. The burden on the average motorist is having an effect with an average family car costing around GBP 55.00 to fill up.

With the increase in fuel prices any relief on the poor motorist is more than welcome. You will be pleased to know the increase in recent car insurance competition, particuarly online, has resulted in cheaper car insurance for all.

This does mean that shopping around for car insurance can lead to lower premiums. The large car insurance companies have recently carried out major advertising campaigns highlighting the 'lower premiums and saving money online benefits'. At present just by buying your car insurance online rather than over the phone can save you an instant 10% with some car insurance companies.

One other aspect to consider are companies that search out the cheapest car insurance for you with top car insurance firms. You simply make one phone call, or one web enquiry and they will search on your behalf with top firms. You pay no money for this service as the commission they take comes straight from the car insurance firm. It's an ideal solution for those with little time to shop around.

One point to remember is make sure you have the right policy for you. You may find a replacement car an advantage for times when your car may be being repaired. Not all insurance companies offer this and it often comes as a premium. Cost is a major factor but ensure the cover is right for you, your car and circumstances.
Doug Taylor is promoter and editor of http://www.carinsuranceonlineuk.co.ukJl Audio Wholesale

Network Marketing Business Opportunity A Powerful Model For Extra Income

Networking marketing is still a fantastic business model to provide you with an additional income stream should business slow down. With the emergence of internet based network marketing opportunities the chances of you finding a business that compliments your business activity is even more likely.

Years ago just the thought of network marketing was enough to scare people away (and it still is even now but not as much!) Rumours of lost income and pyramind schemes saw innocent people robbed and disillusioned but it doesn't have to be that way.

A little due diligence can go a long way towards ensuring that you find a reputable company that will support you in your efforts of building a profitable network marketing business. It's really easy to be sucked in by a flash presentation and big income promises but the real work comes from researching the company, it's management and it's financial position before you sign the dotted line.

Your sponsor should also be an important determining factor and their ability to keep you motivated and on track.

It's also important to remember that it's not all income and glamour, there is a scary statistic that I read recently which shows only a very small percentage (2-3%) actually make a huge six figure income through network marketing with many more leaving before they really get started.

But many people still enjoy a regular ongoing income if they stick with their business for a few years and keep working at it.

Running a network marketing business takes work and commitment. It is no different to running your own business and if you happen to be doing both then it's easy to see why people give up. So it's always good to remember when you are considering taking on an extra business that it's going to take your time, energy and extra money in promotion if you want it to suceed.

For that reason it is important to find a company that you really like, either because of their product or their work ethic. If you can promote your network marketing business to your current clients that can make it even more worthwhile.

It makes it easier when you are feeling like you are tired of promoting or if you have had yet another person say no!

I know a yoga teacher who promotes Herbal Life, a therapist who promotes Tahitain Noni Juice, quite a few Life Coaches who promote Success University and because these businesses fit in well with their current business they are able to enjoy the extra income and even recruit new distributors.

I run 2 network marketing businesses providing different topics but both of them fit into my love of personal development and internet marketing. HelloWorld provides me with an opportunity to promote the work that I do and publish events that I record (all be it briefly) as well as fulfilling my love of streaming digital media (I am becoming quite the geek!) and Success University is an alternative to coaching for people who can't afford it, or for people who just need a "maintenance" program to keep them focused. But I don't only promote these products I use them too.

There are many benefits to running your own network marketing internet based business and I will be talking alot about them over the coming weeks because I believe in it's power as a business model. It has certainly kept my head above water over the last few months as I gave up coaching to focus on building my online business Women Internet Marketers.

Ultimately I want to be known for developing my own business but as I believe in the power of developing income streams from many sources network marketing is still a powerful source to consider.

Diane Corriette runs Women Internet Marketers at http://www.women-internet-marketers.com and a network marketing business with VM Direct at http://www.vmdirect.com/expandingincomeNatural Baby Toy

How to Puppy-Proof Your House: Safety for Your pup, peace of mind for you

The decision to bring a puppy home is just the first step towards a long commitment. The first and foremost thing to do is to get the house ready for the arrival of the new pup. Your house could be a danger zone for a puppy considering the curiosity of a new pup. You need to puppy proof your house, make sure it is safe and that all the essential puppy supplies are bought.

But how do you know if your house is safe and ready for your new puppy? Listed below is a checklist for you to take note of before you bring your new puppy home:

1. Clear your house of poisonous items - Have you cleared your house of all poisonous items and taken them out of your pup's reach? If you haven't, now is the time to put away cleaners, laundry detergents, bleach, disinfectants, insecticides, cleaning fluid, fertilizers, mothballs and antifreeze in cabinets or high up on shelves. Of course, as he grows, and if he has an adventurous streak, he's sure to jump high on to your shelves to find out what's where.

2. Secure all medications and unauthorized foods - These items will cause food poisoning or damages to your dogs' health - Drugs such as Motrin and Tylenol causes liver damage. Common household food items that are harmful include alcoholic beverages, avocado (the only "fatty" member of the vegetable family), coffee, salt, yeast dough, garlic, fatty foods - turkey, artificial sweeteners Xylitol, potatoes, onions, nuts, chocolate, grapes and raisins.

3. Uproot all life-threatening plants - Do you have life-threatening plants at home? Seemingly harmless plants such as apricot pits, spinach and tomato vines are dangerous to your pup. You can find a detailed listing of poisonous houseplants that you might have in your family, at this site: www.vet.purdue.edu/depts/addl/toxic/cover1.htm

You can also ask your vet for more such plants that could affect your pet's health and life - If your puppy has ingested poisonous plants, contact: Animal Poison Control Center at - 888-4ANI-HELP - (888-426-4435)

4. Put away dangerous objects - Position electrical cords out of your puppy's reach, so that he cannot chew them. Pick up and keep dangerous loose items such as nails if they are lying around. Put away all sharp objects such as wires, sewing needles and pins, far away from your puppy's reach. This is to prevent your puppy from swallowing them as such items can harm his mouth and internal organs.

5. Supervise your puppy's movement - Don't let your pup remain by himself, unsupervised for long, irregardless of him being indoors or outdoors. Also, remember to keep him away from balconies, upper porches and high decks or he may just slip through the railings and fall. Remember to keep your toilet cover seat down: puppies sometimes like to play in water. Frolicking in the toilet bowl is harmful for him as he may swallow the toilet cleanser. Also, don't tie ribbons round his neck because he may chew it and this can lead to digestive problems or choke himself if the ribbon gets snagged on other things.

Preparing the Essential Dog Supplies

1. Food and water bowls - Select solid and stable bowls that won't tip over when he eats or drinks out of it. Are they easy to clean? Buy one each for food and water. Initially, buy small bowls and then as he grows older, buy him larger ones. If you do this, he won't develop the habit to overeat for his age nor will he fall into his water bowl whenever he goes to take a drink.

2. Collar - There are a large variety of lightweight collars available for your puppy. No matter which one you choose, attach an identification tag, listing your puppy's name, your address and phone number.

Let his first collar be made of lightweight nylon or leather. To get a good fit, you should measure his neck properly. To do so, measure the circumference of his neck and add two inches to it. To be sure that the collar fits properly, slide two fingers between his collar and your pup's neck. If it's a snug fit, the size is right. But if there's too much space, you need a smaller collar. If your fingers don't fit in comfortably, the collar size is way too small. Your pup may take a little while to adjust to his collar, so give him time to get used to it.

3. Leash - Leashes come in many lengths and styles, such as leather, nylon and retractable leashes. If you buy a six-foot leash it would serve both as a leash for training and walking.

It is important to keep your dog leashed unless he is in a close-up area such as a fenced in yard. In many parts of the U.S., leash laws prevail, making it mandatory to keep your puppy on his leash at all times. If he's unleashed, you may be fined. If your dog happens to defecate in public places, you are expected to clean up after him.

4. Grooming supplies - Grooming him means investing in a number of tools but this will depend on the dog breed you buy and his coat length. For short haired breeds, do invest in a brush with natural bristles, a rubber currycomb or a hand mitt. Sturdy wide-toothed metal combs, flea combs and mat splitters are needed for long haired breeds.

5. Toys - To entertain and exercise your pup, buy him a few toys, as this will help him exercise and get over their cravings for chewing. Choose toys specifically designed for pups ones that can't be splintered, torn or swallowed. What's fun and safe to have are rawhide chips, nylon chews and hard rubber balls. And, if they don't fit comfortably in his mouth, it's not right for him.

6. Recommended puppy food - Give him his essential nutritive foods and get him used to a feeding schedule. Seek advice from your breeder directly or from your veterinarian.

7. Crate or sleeping bed - A Crate is basically a big cage made of metal, plastic or wood. Available in many sizes, the crate should be big enough for your dog to stand up, turn around easily, as well as lie down in. It should be airy. It is recommended to set up your pup's sleeping area in a place where it is warm, comfortable and within your sight. A crate serves very well as a den in your absence from the house. A crate could also be a portable crate enclosed in plastic or a simple wire crate.

When you buy an adult-sized crate, also buy partitions, or place a cardboard box in the back to serve as a cozy space for him. Apart from the crate, set up a sleeping area for him, for the times when you are at home and the crate is not in used. Buy a puppy-sized bed instead of an adult-sized bed, so that he is safe and snug.

A crate when used in the right way promotes good sleeping habits, helps in potty training your dog and discourage undesirable behaviors like nuisance barking and chewing. It can also be a safe confinement for your dog when he's not supervised at home or when you are driving. A crate is so useful, every owner should have one!

8. Stain and scent remover - To take the odor away from his nose, buy a stain and scent remover. With the ability to workout and vent any stresses of the day, employees are less prone to burnout and frustration. These office building and fitness center services also allow a place for coworkers to congregate after and before work to relate in a better way when they're in the office. Here are some of the services that your employer may want to consider adding to your building.

One of the easiest ways to make health and fitness convenient for an employee is to offer office building and fitness center services. By including a simple room or rooms with gym equipment, weights, weight machines and even a small running track, an employer will give their employees the added benefit of being able to maintain their fitness levels. When these fitness levels are maintained, the employee is going to have fewer sick days, fewer mental health days, and less expenditure in terms of their health insurance. This all adds up to a business that has higher morale and happier employees that are willing to do their work well.

To make office building and fitness center services convenient, these areas should include a daycare area for any children of the employees. Some employers offer these childcare services throughout the day, but even having some childcare professionals just during the gym hours would help the employee use the facilities when it's convenient for them. Children will be able to have their own fitness classes or perhaps just a fun playtime with other employees' children. Instead of paying for high cost childcare in their own homes, the employees will be much more likely to use their employer fitness center, which increases their health benefits.

Other fun additions to the office building and fitness center services can include personal trainers, a swimming or lap pool, basketball courts, volleyball courts, and exercise classes. By giving employees a lot of options in their fitness, you increase their attendance. Not everyone likes to use weights or machines and not everyone can use them when you have a larger group of employees. When you add more options to the fitness center, you create enough fitness to go around for everyone.

When you find an employers with office building and fitness center services, you can tell that this is someone that truly cares about you as a person not just an employee. Employees that stay healthy in their jobs will stay with the company for longer, produce more, and be assets to the profitability of their employer. It's not just about the health of the company, but that's certainly something that adds up for the employer.

Machelle Lee owns and operates, The Invisible Gym in Santa Cruz, CA. He was originally a bishop back in the day, and after he died he became known as Saint Nicholas, or Saint Nick for short. And even way back then, before Christmas became a major holiday, the anniversary of his death was a day to celebrate by giving out gifts. But most of us dont know that Saint Nick actually had a bad rap for a while, and that is actually how he got all of the other names we know him by today.

During the time of great change in the Christian Church known as the Protestant Reformation, which occurred in the 1500s, the famous Martin Luther declared that all good Christians should stop celebrating saints. For the devout followers of Luther, that meant also stopping the celebration of Saint Nick, no matter how fun the gift giving had become.

But of course, not all Christians stopped celebrating Saint Nick, not even all of the Protestants. Instead of stopping the celebration, they crafted a plan to enjoy the Saint Nick holiday in secret. This is when Saint Nick became known in England as Father Christmas. In Germany, people referred to Santa as Christmas Man, and the Dutch created the name Sinterklass.

About this time, a large majority of Dutch settlers moved to New Amsterdam in Americawhat would later become New Yorkand brought their celebration of Sinterklass with him. Americans caught on to the idea, and tried to pronounce his name right. But instead, what came out was Santa Claus.

However, Santa Claus did not hit the big time until the author of Sleepy Hollow, Washington Irving, got wind of Santa Claus and promoted him the American press. This happened in the early 1800s, when Washington Irving wrote a story called the A History of New York, in which he went into great detail about a man called Sinterklass. This Saint Nick was fat and short, wore a funny costume, and would travel around on the Eve of Saint Nicolas on a horse.

The idea of jolly gift-giving man caught on in the American press. Another writer, the poet Clement Clark Moore, wrote a poem called A Visit from St. Nicolas, which is better known as, The Night Before Christmas. It was Moore who made Saint Nick a jolly old elf who flies around the night in a magical sleigh powered by eight flying reindeer. We all know the names of those reindeer, right? Well, Moore also included them in his poem.

Americans would get their best images of Santa Claus in the magazines of the late 1800s, when the cartoonist Thomas Nast put out his own visions of Saint Nick in Harpers Weekly. For Nast, Santa was a bigger man with a big fat belly, who wore a red suit lined with fur and a big leather belt. Nast also started drawing images of Santas workshop in the North Pole, and Santa using a list to keep track of his kids who were naughty and nice.

Of course, these are all the images of Santa that we use today in the newspapers, in cartoons, and on TV. Or should we say, perhaps, images of Sinterklass?

Randy Stocklin is the co-owner of Mail from Santa Claus.
